mo' sportz
it's hard not to chat about sports these days, and sports specifically. namely the sox. ok, the super bowl is less than a week away, and that is awesome as i very much look forward to my dad enjoying his steelers winning and all. he's been pretty psyched to this point, so he should be "overjoyed" once they wrap up the seahawks.
and uconn, well, hey now. here we go. all the way baby. from here on out their schedule does not let up, and i could not be more psyched. get ready for ranked games day in and day out. this shit is "tight!" i just hope playing down to their competition the past couple of games doesn't catch up to them tomorrow, but i don't think it will. and for a team that does play to it's competition, i cannot think of a better way to close out the season and head towards the tournaments than to play game after game of ranked team. they could and should be on a role like they've never seen before. should be exciting.
and i had totally forgotten, but peter manfredo has a "contender" fight in providence in two weeks, sunday february 12. a perfect valentine's day gift! i'm trying to figure out who else is fighting, which neither espn.com nor ticketmaster.com want to help out w/. well, i can only assume it'd be someone amazing, and that manfredo's fight would be the greatest fight in history, because the ticket prices are (lowest) $35, $125, $225, $300 and $500. seriously. at the dunkin' donuts center in providence. $500. seriously. w/ no other matches even listed in their attempts to sell tickets. will there be other contender matches? will 'fonso be fighting? the latin snake? my boy joey perhaps? what IS the deal? cause goddamn, those prices are insane for one match that manfredo should handle easily. i mean jesus, the dude he's fighting is 38! and he's not "b-hop." so, that should be good.
but baseball, or more so, the sox. coco crisp is officially "in center field and leading off!" i have made mention of how i don't think he's gonna be able to play in boston. that's my biggest concern that he's one of the majority of players that cannot handle the pressure of playing in boston and new york. the sox have been fairly lucky w/ this lately, at least luckier than the yanks have been, but i fear this could be a big one. that being said though, it's hard not to get caught up in the "what if?" what if he CAN handle the town? well if he can somehow, then we're looking at a whole lot more than anyone had even begun to imagine would be possible after damon left. this is a guy who's young still, and has had his numbers increase in every year. a guy who hit over .300 last year, which in boston would be a 100 run season at the leadoff. he's a guy who also hit like .331 in the final 30 games of the season last year, which if you'll remember were crucial to a very heated race for the central title down to the final weekend of the season. that was a pressure situation, and this kid delivered. again though, delivered in cleveland. which, even in a playoff atmosphere, is not even close to playing in boston, in april.
all that being said, i'm still gonna give him the benefit of the doubt and hope to god he can handle things here. because like i said, if he does, this is one hell of a situation we're looking at here. it's just that he doesn't help things out by saying things to the effect of, "i'm not johnny damon, so i don't think people will really compare me to him." that's not the exact quote, and i'm having a hard time finding it for some reason right now, but that's the idea. and to be so naive to think that not only will that happen, but that it's already happening and will only increase in intensity from now until he leaves town is just plain stupid. and it really shows he has no idea what he's getting himself into here.
on the other hand, i am very psyched about david riske, especially over guillermo mota. this is a guy who seems to really love the idea of coming to boston, and while not the name that mota is, he has far better numbers, especially over last season, than mota. he should be good for us, and if not, ah well, not really that big of a deal.
now we're only left shortstop-less. but w/ many available players to trade to the o's for tejada. not helping baltimores case to keep him is that javy lopez is now looking to be re-signed by spring training or dealt. what a surprise. lots of money or get me the hell out of here. i think that's actually the orioles motto, it's on a plaque somewhere in the stadium.
i'll leave this one as a sports post again, but i've got movie reviews, news and some videogame chit chat to delve into later in the week. last week would have hard more posts, but one of the days, i think friday, blogger was down for an extended period of time, so i wasn't even able to sign on. so sad. but i've got the goods this week. tune in! later!
