a bit of the sox chat

so yeah, it's friday. nothing to chat about. oh wait, except for this little ditty...yes, it seems that miguel tejada has realized that the o's suck. suck dick even. he may have been able to pick up on this earlier if his english were a little better, but i suppose $72 million translates pretty well. better than, "we suck. we suck dick even."

so while that by itself is certainly reason to laugh at the o's, the fact that he made this announcement mere hours after the sox sent edgar renteria packing is a bit too much for my little brain to handle. the timing is far to perfect to mean anything other than that which is implied. tejada wants out of a shitty situation, and sees not only a better situation, but the perfect situation for him to slide himself into.

here's the thing. tejada was a great player in oakland. he was always mentioned as being the fourth member of the "big three", nomar, a-rod and jeter. as much as he, and the a's, would have liked that to be true, it was not. then in 2004 he headed to baltimore. not overly interesting, though at the time there was talk of the sox signing him, which at the time was insane. see, a fella by the name of nomar was still rocking out at short for the sox in 2004. at least to start the season. then some things changed and nomar was shipped to the cubs. orlando cabrera came in and more than did his part in winning the 2004 world series. for some god unfuckingknown reason the sox dumped cabrera, a proven player in boston, and signed renteria for about ten million more than orlando would have cost. ten million for a far lesser player.

during that time period, miguel tejada became a monster in baltimore, w/ the bat, but even more so w/ the glove. in big games against the sox or yanks, tejada was an absolute killer. and since nomar was shipped away, and mostly over the entire span of 2005, i have just imagined a red sox team w/ tejada at short, and wondered why that wasn't what i was looking at. but now, a christmas miracle seems to have occurred, and miguel tejada sees it as well. the sox are looking at a big fat nothing at short. tejada is looking at running out his contract doing nothing but putting up mvp-ish numbers for a team that could very well finish in last place. and as good as those numbers tejada puts up in baltimore are, in boston they would just get even better.

the best part about all of this seems to be how easy it would be for the sox to steal away tejada. true, a manny for tejada trade would make sense if the sox were actually looking to dump manny, and would be something the o's would be interested in. but i'm pretty sure the sox aren't looking to dump manny, and i'm also pretty sure manny has zero fucking interest in going to baltimore. so then, where do we go from here? well, the o's need pitching like nobody's business. i happen to know where they can get their hands on some "good", young pitching! let's say we got a fella by the name of matt clement, who we need to deal before everyone else realizes he sucks. we've also got two guys on the staff who "came up" through the system that will be on the 40 man this year, jon papelbon and craig hansen. hansen may yet prove to suck, but papelbon we know is gonna be the man.

my point being, what the hell are the odds that the sox have anyone in the minors ready to come up like these guys anytime soon? slim to none based on history. they are not the marlins. so anyone and everyone who pitches for the sox minor league teams should be able to be traded. "prospects" they call 'em. the only prospect they have of actually doing anything for this team is coming up in august to spot start one game of a doubleheader, and in turn get blown out. i'm looking at you abe alvarez. so let's start packaging these assholes up and sending them (w/ clement) off to baltimore! stat! asap! other things!

and to top all this off, it seems johnny damon is close to finalizing a deal to stay w/ boston. i'm pretty sure there's a link for that, but i can't seem to find it. so take my word for it. so imagine, if you will, a sox lineup that goes damon, tejada, ortiz, manny. then trot and jay. fantastic. and then, if you will, a rotation to back that up that goes schilling, beackett, papelbon! and hell, let's just get crazy and throw clemens in there too! what a fucking team this will be!

the only downside to all of this tejada talk is that it is too good to be true. that and it makes too much damn sense. and the sox are not often times about that. but christ man, this would go a long way to changing that thought. this, re-signing johnny, keeping manny and getting beckett? that is far too much logic!

so baseball is rocking out right now. in december. like a motherfucker. it's fantastic.

the other big news it that it snowed, an assload, today. surprise! it's winter in new england! but man, because of that, i was all "shoveling" the sidewalk and the deck, both of which are huge (trust me, i'm a huge star, remember?). now i'm all tuckered out, and more than likely out of things to chat about, so...i'm gonna call it a post. and head to bed. so enjoy the snow, most of the country, and have a sweet ass second to last full weekend of shopping before christmas. it's sneaking right up! later!
